Structural Health Monitoring in the context of the safety of hydrotechnical structures was the subject of this year’s International Technical Conference on Dams Control – TKZ2019
SHM System, together with representatives of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.. presented a unique system for monitoring the technical condition of the reinforced concrete structure of the overflow tower in the paper entitled: “Fibre optic measurements of the displacement of the W11 intake tower located in the area of OUOW Żelazny Most”. The task of the system built with the use of 3DSensor is to increase the safety level of the monitored facility by providing technical services with knowledge of parameters important for the assessment of the technical condition and safety of the tower structure.
“Żelazny Most” is the largest in Europe and the second largest in the world tank of post-production waste, which receives flotation waste from three mines owned by KGHM Polska Miedź. The construction of the tank was commenced in 1974 and its operation (and simultaneous expansion) began on 12 February 1977. He took the name of the tank from the nearby village of “Żelazny Most”.
Fiber optic monitoring covered a total of 7 floors of the reinforced concrete structure of the overflow tower W11 located in the area of the Żelazny Most reservoir. The total measurement length of 34.5 m was obtained. In one measurement session, information from 62 100 measurement points is obtained.
